Role Overview We are seeking a highly experienced and creative Director of Photography (DOP) to lead the visual direction of high-impact advertising campaigns for our portfolio companies. You will be responsible for translating the ambitious visions of our entrepreneurs into stunning, cinematic visuals that captivate audiences and establish their market presence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visual Strategy: Collaborate with directors and startup leadership during pre-production to define the definitive visual language, look, and feel of their advertisements, creating mood boards, shot lists, and lighting diagrams.
- Technical Planning: Lead the process of selecting the appropriate camera systems, lenses, filters, and lighting packages required to achieve a cinematic aesthetic that fits the brand’s budget and vision.
- Crew Leadership: Direct and manage the entire camera and lighting departments on set, including camera operators, assistants, gaffers, and grips, ensuring a cohesive and efficient workflow.
- Cinematography Execution: Oversee and execute all aspects of cinematography during production, making critical decisions on framing, composition, focus, and camera movement to tell a powerful brand story.
- Location & Technical Scouting: Participate in location scouts to assess technical and creative possibilities, identifying potential challenges and planning lighting and camera placements.
- Post-Production Collaboration: Work closely with the post-production team, especially the colorist, to supervise the color grading process and ensure the final visual output aligns perfectly with the intended creative vision.
- Quality Assurance: Assume ultimate responsibility for the technical and artistic quality of all images captured, ensuring they meet the highest cinematic standards.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience as a Director of Photography on advertising campaigns or similar projects.
- A strong portfolio of work that demonstrates your creative and technical skills.
- An expert understanding of cinematography, lighting, and color theory.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
